PALM GROVE CENTRE ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS SYDNEY 1999 - 2000 Additions 2005

A special project for Jones Architecture, our first Public Building. Commisioned by the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust in 1999 and open for the Sydney 2000 Olympics, this project provides new premises for the Gardens Shop in a new pavilion, linking to existing heritage buildings, within the heritage landscape of the Royal Botanic Gardens. The client wanted visitors to feel the gardens from within the shop, this is our response. The interiors were designed in association with Ngar-yi Ho & Associates.

"This example of architectural beauty and simplicity is a testament to those who persevere. It may be that some have difficulty imagining how the old and the new in architecture can live together and, as always, the answer is with respect." Joanette Seiden, Architectural Review Australia 075, Autumn 2001.
